There are many ways to help individuals gain awareness around how trauma has affected them.
Research shows that trauma is stored both within the body and the mind. In the body as physiological responses, and in the mind, most often, as distorted and extreme thoughts.
This takes time and gaining awareness of small physiological processes, sensations, and reactions within the body.

Gaining awareness through psychological education (what's happening to you), in a non-judgmental, emotionally safe environment, helps you recognize and manage your symptoms.
This then allows trauma to be resolved.
